Latin Lawyer | Araújo e Policastro adds labour partner
Ana Lúcia Pinke, 44, joined the 48- lawyer firm on 23 June, leaving behind her role as associate at Trench, Rossi e Watanabe Advogados (associated with Baker & McKenzie), a firm four times larger. Over the course of her career, she has also worked for Lobo & de Rizzo Advogados and Lefosse Advogados.
Pinke will head up the practice at Araújo e Policastro, where she will help expand the department, with the eventual aim of making it a similar size to the firm’s other practice areas – part of a wider strategy to take a more modern, full-service approach. While she will be part of that overhaul, Pinke says she was originally drawn to Araújo e Policastro thanks to its reputation in the market as a more traditional firm.
Managing partner Camila Araújo says that the hire is the result of demand for labour advice from international clients of other areas of the firm, which require advice on Brazil’s complex labour legislation. “In Brazil it can represent a huge cost to clients because of the specificities of the legislation,” she explains. According to Trench Rossi partner Leticia Ribeiro, Pinke’s departure was a “strategic business decision” for both her and the firm, which is currently evaluating whether to hire a replacement.
Over the course of the last decade, Araújo e Policastro, which opened its doors in 1962 with a corporate and litigation focus, has focused on becoming a full-service firm, principally through lateral hires across a number of practice areas. 2014 has proven no different: Pinke’s hire follows a new tax partner in May. Last year, a new disputes and compliance partner joined in March, while throughout 2012 the firm added five new partners and absorbed an antitrust boutique.
